How do I get started with Exodus?

Exodus is software that runs locally on your computer and enables you to manage your blockchain portfolio. No account signup is required. Everything is stored and encrypted on your own hard drive.

Back up your wallet to keep it safe

Exodus allows you to try the wallet before having to back it up. We want to make sure that Exodus is right for you before you go ahead and write down your 12-word secret recovery phrase and password!

Once you decide that Exodus is for you, it is time to back up your wallet. This is very important to ensure you never lose access to your hard-earned funds. You can back up before depositing any crypto to your new Exodus wallet, or you can make your first deposit, of any amount, and of any one of our 100+ assets. Once your new Exodus wallet has some crypto in it, the backup option will be highlighted with a red exclamation mark so that you can start the straightforward and simple backup process.

You will also receive the (randomly generated) 12-word phrase of your wallet. This is a secret phrase that functions as a master key to all of your assets. With these 12 words, you will be able to access your balance from anywhere in the world or even transfer all your funds to another wallet if you wish. It will also give you access to your wallet if you forget your password or lose access to your computer (and Exodus) for any reason.

Write this 12-word phrase down on paper and store it safely offline! Do not store a digital copy of it.

Once you have done a backup and chosen your password, you will be asked to enter your password each time you want to log in to your Exodus wallet. To log out, close the Exodus app window. Upon closing it, your assets and wallet files will remain encrypted by your password.
